Paraffin Wax Emulsions
Paraffin wax emulsions are high performance materials which consist of micronized waxes, water and emulsifying agent. Main application areas are wood industry, concrete curing, paper production, gypsum and textile industry.
Paraffin wax emulsions are generally divided into three main groups according to their ionic properties: Anionic, cationic and nonionic. Anionic emulsions are used in matrixes which are alkaline in nature (pH>7). Since most of the things in nature have alkaline properties the mostly used emulsion types are anionic emulsions.
In wood industry paraffin wax emulsions are used to protect wood board from water. It also has anti dust effect which is important in processing of wood. Paraffin waxes in the form of emulsion is used for sizing of the paper, and for increasing the print ability of the paper. Main use of paraffin wax emulsions in gypsum and textile production is for paraffins’ water repellent property.
